Plastic vs Cardboard
What are the advantages of cardboard? Cardboard is made from renewable resources-wood and recycled paper. Unlike plastic, which takes hundreds of years to decompose, cardboard completely decomposes in a few months, can be recycled up to 7 times and does not pollute the ocean and other resources of the Earth. Plastic, especially when heated and interacting with an acidic environment, releases harmful carcinogenic substances: bisphenol A and phthalates, which get into food and can lead to irreversible consequences in a living organism. Cardboard doesn’t enter into such reactions with food and does not contain toxic substances. Cardboard helps to better preserve the taste and freshness of food. Also, unlike plastic, cardboard doesn’t give food foreign odors and unpleasant taste. Cardboard can be folded compactly for storage, various types of tear-off belts can be made for unpacking products, and it is also suitable for reheating in microwave ovens.
Starting from 2022, all companies are required to dispose of part of their waste or pay an eco-collection fee in accordance with the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 2414 of 29.12.2023.
There are also certain regulations in place in Europe, such as Directive EU2019 / 904-banning single-use plastic products
Many chains in Europe have switched to paper cups and cardboard containers (IKEA)
Some US states have banned plastic bags, and Starbucks is testing refillable glasses.
In India, single-use plastic products are banned from 2022, and Japan has been actively developing recycling for a long time.
In conclusion, it should be noted that the rejection of plastic is not just a trend, but a necessity for the preservation of the planet. The food industry around the world is already taking huge steps, because the future belongs to biodegradable materials!
